Over the past 24 hours, the situation in the Pokrovsk direction remains tense. Russian occupiers are conducting active offensive operations in an attempt to improve their tactical position, but Ukrainian forces are inflicting significant losses on the enemy in terms of personnel and equipment, according to the evening update from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Enemy shelling

Today, Russian troops launched two missile strikes using three missiles, carried out 52 airstrikes dropped 72 KABs, and deployed 479 kamikaze drones. Additionally, Russian troops conducted over 3,000 artillery attacks on Ukrainian military positions and civilian areas using various types of weapons.

Frontline situation

As of 10:00 P.M. on August 23 (according to the Kyiv time zone), 125 combat engagements have been recorded along the front lines.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops are attempting to push Ukrainian units back in the areas around Vovchansk and Hlyboke. Fighting continues near Vovchansk.

"Today, Ukrainian defenders in the Kharkiv direction managed to eliminate and injure over 70 occupiers, destroy four artillery systems, two armored combat vehicles, 48 UAVs, four vehicles, and five pieces of specialized equipment. Additionally, a tank, an artillery system, an armored combat vehicle, and five enemy vehicles were damaged," the report states.

The enemy launched 15 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Kupiansk direction. Near the settlements of Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, Synkivka, and Stelmakhivka, defense forces repelled eleven offensive actions. The situation remains tense with four ongoing combat engagements.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Makiivka, Druzhkivka, Novosadove, Nevske, Torske, and Terny 11 times throughout the day. Fighting continues in two locations.

In the Siversk direction, the enemy made seven attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from positions around Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, and Spirne. All attacks were repelled with no success for the enemy.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 20 attempts by Russian troops to advance near Chasiv Yar, Kalynivka, and Ivanivske. Eight combat engagements are ongoing. The situation is under control.

In the Toretsk direction, where the occupiers, supported by aviation, attacked Ukrainian positions near Nelipivka and Toretsk seven times, six combat engagements have concluded. Fighting continues near Nelipivka.

The enemy is focusing its main efforts in the Pokrovsk direction. Over the day, Russian troops attacked 33 times in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Ptyche, and Zelenopillia. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 22 attacks, with 11 combat engagements still ongoing.

"Preliminary estimates indicate that today, the occupiers have lost over 220 soldiers killed and wounded in this direction," the General Staff reported.

In the Kurakhove direction, Ukrainian defenders have repelled 14 enemy attempts to attack positions. Russian troops tried to advance near Kostiantynivka, Heorhiivka, Krasnohorivka, and Karlivka. Fighting continues, with five engagements ongoing.

In the Vremivka direction, Russian troops attempted to storm the front line towards Vodiane and Vuhledar nine times today. Ukrainian forces have stopped four of these attacks, with five ongoing.

Today, no active enemy actions have been observed in the Orikhiv and Dnipro directions, but the enemy continues to carry out airstrikes and shell civilian areas.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their operation in the Kursk direction.

Additionally, the General Staff has commended the soldiers of the 35th Separate Brigade of the Marines named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrogradsky for their effective combat work.

Recall that after a report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian army is gradually pushing Russian forces out of the Kharkiv region.
