Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 17
Ukrainian defenders carried out strikes on enemy positions over the past day, targeting three key locations held by the occupiers, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the past day, there have been 132 combat engagements at the front. Aviation, missile troops, and artillery of the Defense Forces carried out 17 strikes on areas where enemy personnel and military equipment are concentrated, as well as on two artillery systems, two air defense systems, and three other significant enemy targets.
Situation on the fronts:
In the Kharkiv direction, there were nine combat engagements around the settlements of Liptsi and Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, there were 12 attacks over the day. The Defense Forces repelled enemy assaults near Hlushkivka, Kruhliakivka, and Andriivka. Additionally, the aggressor twice attacked towards Lozova.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out eight assaults near Nevske, Makiivka, Torske, and Dibrova.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 enemy assault actions near Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Pereizne.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the occupiers launched four attacks in the areas of Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy, supported by aviation, conducted 13 attacks near Bila Hora, Pivnichne, Zalizne, Nelipivka, New York, and Toretsk.
In the Pokrovsk direction, defenders repelled 51 attacks in the areas of 15 different settlements. The Russian occupiers were most active near Vozdvyzhenka, Novozelanne, Hrodivka, and towards Zelenopillia. The highest concentration of enemy attacks was recorded near Hrodivka.
In the Kurakhiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled 17 attacks near Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka, Heorhiivka, and Oleksandrivka.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy carried out one attack towards Kostiantynivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, one assault on positions was recorded in the area of Mala Tokmachka.
In the Dnipro direction, the operational situation remains unchanged. The enemy conducted three unsuccessful assaults and also carried out an airstrike.
On the border with the Chernihiv region, the enemy maintains a military presence.
The operation in the Kursk region continues — Ukrainian forces are making successful advances. Russian servicemen, choosing to surrender, continue to do so.
Kursk operation
On August 6, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive operation in the Kursk region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have managed to take control of at least 82 settlements.
Ukraine has established its first military command in the Kursk region and plans to open a humanitarian corridor for evacuation.
Recently, Ukrainian forces conducted the largest capture of enemy personnel in a single operation, with the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) capturing 102 Russian soldiers, including Kadyrovites from the Akhmat unit.
