Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 24

Ukrainian soldiers are holding positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, repelling Russian attacks near Avdiivka (Donetsk region) and striking 7 areas with the concentration of enemy personnel, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The Russian Federation continues its aggressive war. Despite significant losses, it does not abandon plans for the complete occupation of Ukraine. The adversary persists in ignoring the laws and customs of war, employing terror tactics, striking military and civilian objects alike.
The enemy actively uses aviation and FPV-type quadcopters, conducting assault operations with armored support. The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains complex, with 50 armed clashes occurring within a day.
Additionally, the enemy launched 2 missile strikes and carried out 53 aerial attacks, initiating 53 shelling incidents from reactive salvo fire systems on the positions of our forces and populated areas. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains largely unchanged, with no significant signs of the formation of offensive groupings detected. Identified units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine.
The adversary launched aviation strikes in the areas of Zemlianyi Yar, Zybyne, and Krasne Pershe in the Kharkiv region. Over 25 populated areas, including Ulytsia, Chuikivka, Marchykhyne Buda, Iskriskivshchyna, Volodymyrivka, Basivka, Popivka in the Sumy region, and Stohnii, Udy, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Bochkove, Nesterni in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
On the Kupiansk front, our defenders repelled 5 attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy attempted to breach the defense of our forces. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Tabaiivka and Pishchane in the Kharkiv region.
Over 15 populated areas, including Masiutivka, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, were under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 3 attacks near Dibrova in the Donetsk region and another 3 attacks in the areas of Makiivka and Serebrianska Forestry in the Luhansk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to breach the defense of our forces. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.
More than 10 populated areas, including Bilohorivka, Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, the forces of defense repelled 5 attacks near Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivka, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve their tactical position. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Predtechyne in the Donetsk region.
About 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and New York in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, our defenders repelled 3 attacks near Avdiivka and another 5 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to breach the defense of our forces.
The enemy also conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Avdiivka and Severne in the Donetsk region. About 15 populated areas, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Stepove, Orlivka, Avdiivka, and Severne in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Maryinka front, the defense forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The occupiers, with aviation support, attempted 9 times unsuccessfully to improve their tactical position.
The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Maksymilianivka and Heorhiivka in the Donetsk region. Under artillery and mortar fire of the invaders were Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka, and Novomykhailivka.
On the Shakhtarsk front, our defenders repelled 2 enemy attacks south of Zolota Nyva and east of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Staromaiorsk and Rivnopolya in the Donetsk region.
Over 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Prystisivka, Zolota Nyva, and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, our defenders repelled an enemy attack near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
More than 25 populated areas, including Poltavka, Huliaipole, Charivne, Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, and Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group on the Kherson front, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of populated places Kachkariivka, Respublikanets, Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiiivka, in the Kherson region.
Artillery shelling affected Kherson, Beryslav, and Sadove in the Kherson region.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge Ukrainian units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro.
During the day, the adversary attempted 7 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our forces.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 6 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, armaments, and military equipment.
Missile troops units delivered strikes on 1 area of concentration of enemy personnel.
The total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 378,660 military personnel.
