Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 9

Ukrainian fighters continue to advance in the Zaporizhzhia region, repelling Russian attacks in Klyshchiivka near Bakhmut and destroying an occupant's logistical hub, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the day, the enemy conducted 2 missile and 28 aerial strikes, carrying out 35 rocket artillery shelling on our troops' positions and civilian settlements.
Due to the Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
The likelihood of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
Frontline situation
During the day, there were 22 skirmishes.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 30 settlements.
Specifically, this includes Khrinivka, Huta-Studenetska, Buchky, Hremiach in the Chernihiv region; Novovasylivka, Baranivka, Atynske, Stepne, Volodymyrivka in the Sumy region; and Udy, Sosnivka, Hraniv, Starytsia, Vovchansk, and Nesterne in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled enemy attacks in the area north of Synkivka and northeast of Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region.
Enemy aviation carried out strikes in the areas of Klyshchiivka in the Donetsk region and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.
Enemy artillery shelling affected settlements Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers steadfastly hold their defense, repelling enemy attacks on the outskirts of Klyshchiivka and northeast of Druzhba in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an aerial strike in the Klyshchiivka area.
Over 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery shelling, including Malynivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Predtechyne, and Diliyivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, under heavy fire from enemy aviation and artillery, our defenders repelled attacks by Russian forces in the Avdiivka area and southeast of Severne in the Donetsk region.
The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the Avdiivka area, the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected Avdiivka, Karlivka, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the Maryinka area, the Donetsk region.
The enemy conducted an aviation strike in the Krasnohorivka area, the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Paraskoviyivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost ground in the Staromaiorske area, the Donetsk region.
Aerial strikes were carried out in the areas of Blahodatne and Staromykhailivka, the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected Vuhledar, Odradne, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne, and Staromaiorske, the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy made unsuccessful offensive actions south of Novodanylivka, the Zaporizhzhia region.
Artillery shelling affected more than 15 settlements, including Novodarivka, Olhivske, Huliaiipole, Novoandriivka, Piatykhatky, Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in the Dnipro region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Odradokamianka, Lvove, and Komyshan, the Kherson region.
Enemy artillery shelling affected over 20 settlements, including Zolota Balka, Respublikanets, Odradokamianka, Novotiahynka, Antonivka, and Veletenske in the Kherson region; the city of Kherson; Kutsurub, Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidate their positions, and engage in counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, defense aviation carried out 10 strikes on areas of enemy personnel concentration, armaments, and military equipment. Additionally, one strike targeted an anti-aircraft missile complex and another hit a logistic hub of the enemy.
Units of missile troops and artillery during the day hit 3 command points, 5 artillery units on firing positions, an area of enemy personnel concentration, armaments, and military equipment, a radio-electronic warfare station, and another significant enemy target.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion stands at 251,620 military personnel.
