Russian troops are attempting to expand the zone of active combat along the border of the Sumy region to cut off the logistical routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS), Andrii Demchenko.

"The enemy is now trying to enter our territory with assault groups or expand the zone of active combat within Ukraine, particularly in the direction of the village of Novenke. However, units of the SBGS and other components of the Defense Forces are inflicting maximum damage to prevent the enemy from securing positions and amassing forces on Ukrainian territory," he said.

The SBGS spokesperson emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preventing the Russian army from advancing deeper into Ukraine and cutting off the logistical routes of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. He added that the enemy is attempting to push the Defense Forces out of their territory and further expand the combat zone.

"All components of the Defense Forces are operating in this direction to prevent this. All available weapons are being used," Demchenko stressed.

Situation on the front

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were 109 combat engagements on the front line over the past day, March 2. The enemy exerted the most pressure in the Pokrovsk and Lyman directions, while in the Kursk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 30 enemy attacks.

Recently, reports circulated online claiming that Russian forces had allegedly breached the village of Novenke in the Sumy region. However, this information was later refuted. At the time, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Andriy Kovalenko, stated that the enemy was attempting assault operations along the border of the Sumy region.
