Russia targets Ukrainian drones in Pokrovsk as part of new battlefield tactics

Chief of Staff of the 2nd International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Pavlo Slavinskyi, says the situation in the Pokrovsk direction remains one of the most difficult along the entire front line. He noted that Russian forces have already changed their tactics.
Speaking during a national telethon, Slavinskyi said his legion is currently operating in the Pokrovsk direction, which he described as extremely challenging.
"The situation is difficult, but predictable. We understand what the enemy is doing and are trying to regain the lost positions. It's a kind of 'swing' (the front line moves back and forth -ed.)," he said.
According to Slavinskyi, since February, when Russia’s offensive campaign peaked, their tactics have shifted. The Russian military is now focusing on destroying rear infrastructure and reconnaissance assets to enable a more unimpeded advance.
"They are trying to blind us, to deprive us of our ‘eyes’ — our drones. This tactic is working in several directions," he added.
Situation in the Pokrovsk region
The Pokrovsk direction in eastern Ukraine remains one of the hottest sectors of the front. In recent days, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported intense fighting in the area.
On May 11, Russian forces launched the highest number of assaults in a single day in the Pokrovsk direction.
Ukrainian troops are actively resisting the Russian advance. The enemy is attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and push deeper into the country. At the same time, Ukrainian units are conducting counterattacks and working to regain lost ground.
On May 10 alone, Ukrainian forces in the Pokrovsk direction:
- eliminated 69 Russian soldiers;
- wounded 32;
- destroyed one vehicle and three reconnaissance drones;
- significantly damaged one self-propelled artillery system.
