Ukrzaliznytsia reported a tragic incident that occurred as a result of a Russian attack. During the evacuation of people on the Odesa Railway, a train conductor was killed, and a passenger sustained moderate injuries, according to the company’s press service.

“Unfortunately, today we also have an extremely sad incident: on the Odesa Railway, while the train was stopped and passengers were being evacuated, a conductor was fatally struck by an oncoming train that was also heading to its evacuation stop,” the press service wrote.

A passenger who sustained moderate injuries was also reported. A thorough investigation into the accident is currently underway.

Ukrzaliznytsia also reported that overnight, the enemy once again attacked rolling stock on the Prydniprovska Railway - this time a suburban train locomotive. Thanks to the preemptive evacuation, neither the passengers nor the locomotive crew were injured.

The carrier also reminded passengers to strictly follow the rules for disembarking and boarding during evacuations:

  • Do not create crowding or panic;
  • Always ensure the path is safe when disembarking or boarding a carriage - first of all, check for oncoming trains;
  • During evacuation, leave all bulky items behind;
  • Assist passengers who need help;
  • Keep an eye on children and reassure them with a calm, confident tone;
  • If evacuation is announced, quickly move to a safe distance from the carriage or to the location indicated by railway workers.

Ukrzaliznytsia reminded that railway workers, in close cooperation with the Defense Forces, have strengthened monitoring of all threats and announced evacuations in the event of direct activity by enemy drones or other means of attack near a specific train’s route.

Train crews are undergoing ongoing training and practical exercises, and the analysis of each incident strengthens safety protocols.

As reported, on March 14, the Russians struck a suburban train with a drone in the Kharkiv region - the driver and his assistant were injured in that attack.

Additionally, last month, Ukrzaliznytsia came under fire in several regions simultaneously. Specifically, railway infrastructure was hit in the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Poltava regions.
