Homes burn, lives lost, massive damage: Everything we know about Russia's attack on Kyiv

During the night of July 2, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv. Apartment buildings were destroyed, more than 50 people were injured, and more than a dozen were killed.
RBC-Ukraine reports everything known so far about the aftermath of the enemy attack on the capital.
Key points:
- Kyiv was under attack by ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.
- An ambulance substation, a hotel in the center, and residential buildings were damaged.

Impact by district
Shevchenkivskyi district
In the city center, debris and projectiles struck a three-story non-residential building and the roof of a hotel, causing large fires. This is also where the first casualties were reported, with five people injured.
According to the city's mayor, five medical workers were injured, including one paramedic who is in critical condition.
A medical facility was also partially destroyed.
Vitalii Klitschko clarified that the building housing one of the city's ambulance substations was damaged. In addition to medical workers, ambulance station drivers were also injured. Two of the victims were hospitalized.
Holosiivskyi district
The roof of a high-rise residential building caught fire as a result of the attack. State Emergency Service units are working at the scene.
Desnianskyi district
The attack caused partial destruction of a residential building, with people trapped inside.
Pecherskyi district
Fires were reported at two locations near residential buildings.
Solomianskyi district
A fire broke out near an administrative building.
Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts
In the Darnytskyi district, falling debris trapped people inside an apartment in a residential building, Vitalii Klitschko reported.
Private houses also caught fire in Darnytskyi. At the same time, a fire continued in a private house in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
Residents were also trapped in another private house in the same district after it was hit by falling debris.
Initially, six people were reported injured, all of whom were hospitalized.
The mayor later said the number of injured in the capital had risen to 11. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, one person was killed in the attack.
More details later emerged from the Darnytskyi district. According to Vitalii Klitschko, a section of a nine-story residential building collapsed from the first to the sixth floor.
The Kyiv City Military Administration later revised the casualty figures to 16 injured and two dead.
The number of confirmed injuries later rose to 20.
Later, Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said the death toll in the capital had risen to eight.
"The enemy is once again deliberately striking residential neighborhoods and killing civilians. We have very serious destruction and a large number of victims, including children," he said.
Information on damage, fatalities, and injuries
Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that in the Darnytskyi district, falling debris partially destroyed five- and nine-story residential buildings, the upper floors of a 16-story residential building, and also damaged private houses.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out on the shared roof of a seven-story residential building and a hotel. Damage was also recorded to a five-story residential building, another five-story residential building caught fire across an area of 300 square meters, and a three-story non-residential building caught fire.
In the Pecherskyi district, a nine-story residential building was damaged, with the first and second floors burning across an area of 200 square meters. Emergency responders rescued one person. In the Obolonskyi district, a fire broke out at a warehouse site. One injured person was taken to a fire and rescue unit, where they received assistance.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out on the technical floor of a 16-story residential building. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, two private houses were damaged, while in the Desnianskyi district, a nine-story residential building was damaged.
State Emergency Service rescue teams continue working at all locations. Their priority remains rescuing people trapped under the rubble and extinguishing fires.

Later, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said the death toll in the capital had risen to 10.
At 7:06 a.m., the air raid alert was lifted in the city.
Later, Tymur Tkachenko reported that, according to the available information, 56 people had been confirmed injured in the city. Among them were two children. The overall situation in the capital remains difficult:
- The overnight attack caused damage and destruction at more than 30 locations across all districts of Kyiv.
- The deaths of nine people have been confirmed. Information regarding several other people is currently being verified, while emergency services continue working at the affected sites.
- Significant direct hits on residential buildings were recorded, and rescuers continue to rescue people trapped under the rubble.
Later, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the death toll had risen to 11.
Kyiv suffered the most from the enemy attack. In the Darnytskyi district, part of a nine-story residential building was destroyed. State Emergency Service teams are working to rescue people trapped under the rubble.
At this location, 17 people have been rescued, seven of whom were pulled from the deadly trap. One person was killed. There are reports of missing people. The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
At the deployed operational headquarters, police investigators are accepting statements from those affected.
In total, more than 20 residential buildings across Kyiv were hit in the Russian attack. Rescuers continue working at 15 locations.
"Unfortunately, the number of victims will continue to rise. People are still seeking assistance," Klymenko added.
Before the attack began, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of an increased threat during a press conference in Ireland. Citing Ukrainian intelligence, the head of state said that Russia was preparing a new massive strike against Ukraine and urged citizens to remain highly vigilant and not ignore air raid alerts.
