Russian occupying forces attacked Sumy with drones overnight into Saturday, striking a high-rise residential building and sparking an immediate fire, according to the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov, and the acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar.

"Preliminarily, the Russians hit the regional center with strike UAVs. A fire broke out on the upper floors of a high-rise building in the Zarichnyi district," Hryhorov wrote.

At the same time, acting mayor Artem Kobzar said three explosions were recorded. Another strike hit a courtyard in the same district.

As of 3:26 a.m. local time, at least three people were reported injured in Sumy as a result of the enemy attack. Later, the number of wounded rose to four.

According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service, the occupiers hit a 16-story residential building and a private housing sector. Residents of the burning high-rise were promptly evacuated.

Preliminarily, seven people were injured, including one child. All victims are receiving necessary assistance.

Previous attacks on Sumy

On April 3, Russian forces struck a shopping center in central Sumy, injuring two people.

On the same day in Shostka, a guided aerial bomb hit a multi-story building, also damaging private homes.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that on March 18, Russians attacked a military enlistment office building in Sumy with a drone, wounding two people.

Earlier, in late February, Russia struck a hotel in Sumy. During firefighting efforts, a second attack targeted the scene, including emergency responders. Fifty people had to be evacuated from the hotel.
