Russia suffered the highest average daily losses in Ukraine in September - UK intelligence
In September 2024, Russia faced record losses in Ukraine. The average daily losses of Russian troops, including killed and wounded, reached 1,271 people per day, according to UK intelligence.
According to UK intelligence, this figure exceeded the previous maximum recorded in May 2024, when daily losses amounted to 1,262 people.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia's total losses are estimated to have exceeded 648,000 troops.
The UK Ministry of Defense notes that the increase in casualties is attributed to the expansion of the combat zone, including operations in Kharkiv and Kursk regions, as well as to the increased intensity of fighting at the front. Russian troops continue to seek to stretch Ukraine's forces, using their numerical superiority to attempt to break through the defense and achieve tactical success.
It is expected that even in winter when conditions usually make fighting more difficult, Russian army casualties will remain high - about 1,000 people a day.
Winter weather conditions have not reduced the level of losses, as Russia continues to use massive attack tactics rather than maneuver warfare, which requires more favorable conditions.
