Despite the declared ceasefire, Russia attacked Ukraine with 67 strike drones on the night of May 8. Air defense forces shot down most of the Russian drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

From evening until morning, the Russians attacked with 67 Shahed-type strike drones (including jet-powered ones), Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodya decoy drones from the following directions: Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo of Russia, and Hvardiiske of the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.

Russian air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defense forces shot down or neutralized 56 Russian Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types of drones in the south and east of Ukraine.

11 Russian strike drones were recorded hitting 8 locations, and debris from downed drones was found at seven locations.

So-called Ukraine-Russia ceasefire

Russia recently unilaterally announced a ceasefire for May 8–9 to mark Victory Day.

The Kremlin also began threatening massive strikes on central Kyiv if Ukraine attacks Moscow during the holiday celebrations.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6.

Despite Kyiv’s initiative to establish a complete ceasefire, Moscow responded with new attacks and struck Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih.

Yesterday, Russia officially announced a ceasefire from midnight on May 8 through May 10. During this period, all Russian military units on the front lines are to completely cease hostilities.

However, throughout the night of May 8, the Russian army continued to strike Ukrainian positions, despite the declared ceasefire.

Earlier, Zelenskyy also stated that Russia's main parade depended on Ukraine. The President emphasized that Ukraine would respond and that further decisions would depend on how the situation develops in the coming days.
