Russia strikes the Zhytomyr region with drones and missiles for the second day in a row, according to the Zhytomyr regional military administration.
During the night, several hits or debris from Russian cruise missiles and kamikaze drones were recorded in the region. The Russian attack damaged residential buildings, private civilian enterprises, and a store.
6 people were injured, including 2 children. One child and one adult were hospitalized and are receiving the necessary medical care in regional healthcare facilities.
Zhytomyr regional military administration notes that the Russian attack is ongoing. Ukrainian air defense forces, rescuers, and medics are working in the region. Residents are urged to stay in shelters and follow safety precautions.
At 9:30 a.m. Kyiv time, it became known that Russia had killed a child born in 2021 in the Zhytomyr region.
The child was hospitalized, and doctors fought to save the child's life, but were ultimately unable to do so. Another child and one adult are in hospitals.
In total, there are currently 5 known wounded and one killed due to Russian strikes on the Zhytomyr region last night.
On the morning of Monday, December 22, it became known that a freight train accident had occurred in the Zhytomyr region. As a result, the Kharkiv-Uzhhorod passenger train made an emergency stop, and the locomotive derailed. It later became known that the Ukrzaliznytsia freight train derailed, probably due to a Russian drone attack.
Russian strikes on Ukraine on December 23
During the night and early morning, Russian troops carried out another combined strike on Ukrainian territory, using attack drones and missiles. As of 7:50 a.m., emergency power cuts had been implemented in most regions.
Russia also struck the Rivne region. According to preliminary data, an apartment building was damaged - the blast wave knocked out windows in the apartments. A wooden farm building was also destroyed, and three cars were damaged.
In Kyiv, debris from a Russian drone fell in the Sviatoshynskyi district. 4 people are known to have been injured.
In addition, Russia destroyed a critical infrastructure facility in Shostka, Sumy region. A significant part of the city was left without electricity and heat.
