On December 24, Russian troops attacked energy infrastructure in Chernihiv with strike drones. An important energy facility was damaged, according to Chernihiv City Council.

"Regarding the explosion that Chernihiv residents could hear at around 2 p.m. Kyiv time, on December 24, the energy infrastructure is under Russian attack," the statement says.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of Russian drones moving toward Chernihiv from the northwest.

According to Chernihivoblenergo regional electricity distribution company, Russian strikes damaged an important energy facility in the Chernihiv district. Tens of thousands of residents were left without power.

As soon as the security situation allows, energy workers will begin emergency repair work.

The city council also reported that a drone had crashed on the territory of one of the enterprises.

According to preliminary information, a Russian strike damaged the facade and windows of an administrative building, a garage, 8 cars, and a passenger bus. No information about casualties has been received.

Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities

On the morning of December 24, Russian troops launched a series of targeted strikes on a thermal power plant in the suburbs of Kharkiv. As a result, the city was forced to switch to energy island mode.

In total, on the night of December 24, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian territory with strike drones from 6 directions. Most of the Russian targets were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces.

At the same time, Russia launched a significant number of strike drones at critical infrastructure in the Chernihiv region.

In addition, the Russians attacked energy facilities in several regions, resulting in power outages for customers in five regions.
