Russia strikes Ukraine's Balakliia: Residential buildings on fire, casualties reported

On April 24, Russians attacked Balakliia in the Kharkiv region, launching drone strikes on the city center, causing fires and killing one person, according to Vitalii Karabanov, the head of the Balakliia City Council.

The first reports of the attack began coming in at 10 a.m. Kyiv time.
According to Karabanov, three Russian drone strikes were initially recorded in the central part of the city. Later, it became known that another strike had hit a private residential building.
A 60-year-old woman was killed in the Russian attacks. A 58-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were also injured. They sustained blast injuries and were hospitalized.
Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed the Russian drone strike on the residential sector of Balakliia. He adds that the injured man and woman are receiving medical care.
Rescue workers are trying to determine whether there were other people in the struck building at the time of the Russian attack.
"As a result of the strike, a private home and several cars are on fire. Emergency services are working to address the aftermath," Syniehubov reports.
Later, the State Emergency Service clarified that several Russian strikes on Balakliia damaged apartment buildings, private homes, an educational institution, and vehicles.
"State Emergency Service rescuers extinguished three fires at different locations. Operational units and State Emergency Service bomb disposal experts, as well as medical personnel and law enforcement officers, were working at the scene," the agency notes.
Rescuers also shared photos of the aftermath of the Russian attack.

Russian strikes on Ukraine on April 24
Last night, Russia carried out another massive airstrike on Ukraine.
Odesa came under Russian drone attack, with strikes reported on residential buildings.
The attack resulted in casualties, including the death of a married couple.
In the Black Sea, Russians also attacked a bulk carrier heading to one of the ports in the Greater Odesa area with strike drones.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia struck Ukraine with two missiles and 107 drones. Ukrainian air defense forces neutralized 96 Russian targets.
Russian attack continued in the morning. Explosions were heard in Kyiv caused by Russian drones.
According to local authorities, Russian drone debris fell in two locations in the Solomianskyi district, on non-residential property and into a body of water.
