On the night of April 8, Russian forces launched a kamikaze attack on the oil refinery in Merefa, Kharkiv region, according to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, and Suspilne.

The first explosions in Merefa occurred around 1 a.m. Kyiv time. There were no civilian casualties.

Anastasia Cherednykova, head of the plant’s legal department, reports significant damage to the facility:

"There were no civilian casualties. If I’m not mistaken, this is the fifth Russian strike on the plant since the start of the full-scale invasion. The plant will continue to operate because we have a very large workforce," she says.

According to Cherednykova, it is currently difficult to say how long the restoration will take.

In addition to the plant, civilian infrastructure was also damaged. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, clarified that 4 houses and 3 cars were damaged as a result of the explosions.

Recently, Russia struck a bus in Nikopol during rush hour, resulting in fatalities and many injuries. Several strikes on the city’s civilian infrastructure occurred within a single day.

Before that, the Russians struck a market in Nikopol, killing at least 5 people. Many were injured as a result of the Russian strike.
