On the morning of Thursday, August 21, Russian forces attacked Lviv and the surrounding region with cruise missiles and strike drones, according to Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi.

In the Lviv region, an air raid alert began at 2:57 a.m. Kyiv time due to the threat of kamikaze drones and cruise missile launches from Russian aviation.

Around 4:00 a.m., Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, reported the appearance of an enemy drone first over the Zolochiv district and later near Vynnyky. Following this, air defense systems were activated, and a series of explosions were heard in the city.

At 6:05 a.m., the regional head warned of a cruise missile approaching Lviv. At the same time, residents reported powerful explosions in various parts of the city on social media.

Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi later provided details on the attack’s consequences. He stated that a missile strike was recorded in the area of Olena Stepanivna Street, where there are preliminary reports of casualties.

“The blast wave damaged dozens of buildings: windows and roofs. All emergency services are working on site. There is also information about fires in other locations. We are checking,” Andrii Sadovyi wrote.

The previous large-scale attack on the Lviv region occurred on the night of July 12. At that time, the Halytskyi and Zaliznychnyi districts of the city suffered the most damage. In particular, explosions destroyed a residential building on Olena Stepanivna and Mytropolyta Andreia streets.

On the night of August 21, Russian forces launched a massive strike across Ukraine, using Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and aeroballistic Kinzhal missiles. Air defense systems were active in many regions.

One of the targets of the Russian attack was the city of Mukachevo in Zakarpattia.

Explosions were also reported in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.
