On the morning of December 7, explosions were reported in Konotop, the Sumy region. This occurred amid the potential risk of Russian ballistic attack weaponry, reports Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin.

Air raid alerts were issued in several regions of Ukraine around 06:13 AM (Kyiv time), affecting most areas in the eastern part of the country, including both southern and northern regions.

Monitoring groups reported a ballistic threat.

At 06:17 AM, the mayor of Konotop reported an explosion, followed by another one shortly after.

“Danger!!! The alarm was triggered after the explosion! It’s ballistic!” the mayor wrote.

He added that details about the enemy missile attack on Konotop and information on its aftermath would be released later. For now, the public is urged to maintain an information blackout.

According to the mayor of Konotop, the enemy used ballistic missiles from the occupied Crimea to strike the city.

"By the way, the launch took place from the Perekop Isthmus. That’s probably why they were able to reach us," Semenikhin added.

Later, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported on Telegram that Russian forces launched a missile strike on the infrastructure of the Konotop community.

“All necessary services are on site. The consequences of the Russian attack are being clarified,” the administration stated.

Russian shelling of Konotop

Like other settlements in the Sumy region, this city frequently suffers from Russian strikes.

For instance, during the last attack, Russian forces heavily shelled Konotop on the night of September 12. The city lost power, and 14 people were injured. It is known that Russians used Shahed drones in their attack.

More details about the shelling of Konotop can be found in a separate RBC-Ukraine article.
