Russian forces attacked energy facilities in six regions of Ukraine with strike drones overnight on August 27, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reports.

“During the night of August 26–27, the enemy carried out another massive terrorist attack using UAVs against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure,” the Ministry said.

The strikes targeted energy and gas transport facilities in the Sumy, Poltava, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

“Around 1 a.m., drone strikes damaged equipment at a key substation in Sumy, leaving a significant part of the city and industrial consumers without power,” the Ministry added.

In the Poltava region, the enemy specifically targeted gas transport infrastructure, causing substantial damage. Energy and gas workers are working to restore electricity and gas supplies as quickly as possible.

“We view these Russian attacks as a continuation of a deliberate policy to destroy Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure ahead of the heating season. This is another act of energy terrorism aimed at the civilian population,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy emphasized.

Attacks on Ukraine on August 27

At night on August 27, around 1 a.m., Russian forces struck Sumy with Shahed drones, causing power outages in the city.

The enemy attack damaged local infrastructure, leading to partial electricity loss, suspension of municipal electric transport, and interruptions in water supply to residents.

Massive strikes were also reported in the Poltava region. The attack damaged energy sector facilities and caused blackouts affecting both residential and commercial consumers.
