On the night of August 27, Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Sumy, causing damage to infrastructure, according to Sumy regional governor Oleh Hryhorov and acting mayor of Sumy Artem Kobzar.

"Russia carried out a massive drone strike on the outskirts of the Sumy community. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties," the statement said.

It added that infrastructure facilities were damaged in the attack, and emergency services are currently working at the scene.

Acting mayor of Sumy Artem Kobzar also confirmed that the regional center was attacked by Shahed drones, noting that there were no hits on residential districts.

Sumy under attack

Explosions in Sumy were first heard at around 01:08 AM Kyiv time. At the same time, the media reported power outages in some districts, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The city had also come under attack the previous night, on August 26, when one drone strike was recorded in each of two districts. That attack damaged warehouse facilities and set non-residential buildings on fire.
