He was asked how the third round of negotiations with Ukraine had gone.

"In a working manner, if you mean jokes about history lessons — we stopped at the Baptism of Rus," he replied.

Medinsky also added that the next negotiations with Ukraine would take place "soon."

Axios previously reported, citing sources, that the political part of the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia had reached a deadlock due to Medinsky’s position. The outlet’s sources did not provide further details.

What is known about Medinsky

Vladimir Medinsky is a native of the Cherkasy region (the city of Smila) and has become one of the key ideologues of Putin’s regime.

He began his career in the advertising business, after which he served for a long time as a deputy in the State Duma representing United Russia. From 2012 to 2020, he held the position of Russia’s Minister of Culture.

Medinsky built an image as a defender of Russian history, writing a series of books titled Myths about Russia, which sought to debunk negative stereotypes about Russia.

He is currently an aide to the Russian President and heads the Russian Military Historical Society. Medinsky has repeatedly represented Moscow in negotiations with Ukraine.
