Russia's Syzran hit by drones, explosions shake city, blackout in one area

The city of Syzran in Russia’s Samara region has been under attack by unidentified drones since the evening of December 27, according to Russian media.
Residents of Syzran reported on local social media before midnight on December 28 that loud explosions were heard in the city, particularly in the central and southern areas.
Citizens also reported hearing air raid sirens.
At the same time, Kurumoch Airport in Samara announced a carpet plan, meaning the airport is not allowing any takeoffs or landings.
Later, videos began appearing on the same social media pages, reportedly showing hits on a substation.
Residents began reporting power and heating outages.
There were also reports of a possible strike on a local oil refinery.
Attacks on the Syzran Oil Refinery
On the night of December 5, reports emerged of an attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region. Footage showed a fire near the facility.
On the same night, several social media pages reported that unidentified drones attacked Temryuk in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. In particular, a seaport was hit, causing a fire in the area.
Later, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that on the night of December 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Syzran Oil Refinery in Samara and the infrastructure of the seaport in Krasnodar Krai.
Previously, on November 22, drones of unknown origin attacked the Syzran Oil Refinery, owned by Rosneft, which has a capacity of 8.5 million tons per year.
The refinery had also been attacked in August, after which it temporarily ceased operations.
The Syzran refinery is one of Russia’s largest. Last year, it produced 800,000 tons of gasoline, 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, and 700,000 tons of fuel oil.
