The Judicial Department of Russia’s Supreme Court has classified data on the number of lawsuits seeking to have citizens declared dead or missing. Statistics on political cases and crimes committed by law enforcement officers have also been classified, according to the Russian outlet Vyorstka.

On October 2, the department published crime statistics for 2025. Some of the rows in the report were simply covered with gray, including the number of lawsuits seeking to have people declared dead or missing.

A year earlier, courts had considered a record 17,500 such lawsuits. And by the end of 2025, Russian courts began removing information about these cases from their websites.

An entire section on crimes against the foundations of the constitutional order and state security disappeared from the report. It is now unknown how many people were convicted of treason, disclosure of state secrets, sabotage, creating an extremist community, and "discrediting" the army.

At the same time, the department retained data on punishments for "fake news" about the army: in 2025, 90 people were convicted under this article.

Administrative statistics were also hidden, including fines for “discrediting” the army, inciting hatred, calls for separatism, and violations of rules for “foreign agents.”

Previously, the report separately indicated how many crimes were committed by military personnel, judges, prosecutors, investigators, police officers, and prison employees. These rows were also covered with gray in the 2025 statistics.

The classification of the statistics coincided with a new wave of military recruitment. On October 1, the Russian General Staff announced that about 120,000 people would be drafted for compulsory military service in the fall.

Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that Russia has effectively begun an additional mobilization. According to him, the Kremlin is increasing the number of people in the military in various ways and plans to recruit more foreigners.

The president also spoke about North Korea’s new plan regarding military personnel. More than 8,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia, while another 10,000 are being selected for training and deployment.
