Russia’s night strikes cut power to nearly 100,000 Ukrainian households

More than 100,000 households in Ukraine were left without electricity today due to last night’s Russian drone attacks on energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports.
According to Zelenskyy, the Russians launched nearly a hundred drones, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Energy facilities were damaged as a result of the strikes.
“The attack caused power outages in the Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, leaving more than one hundred thousand households without electricity. All emergency services are working on the ground to restore power as quickly as possible,” the President said.
Zelenskyy also noted strikes in other regions: a drone hit a lyceum in the Kharkiv region, and in Kherson, a residential apartment building was targeted. There are casualties, and all necessary assistance is being provided. The Dnipropetrovsk region was also hit.
Ukrainian President emphasized that Russia continues the war and ignores the world’s calls to stop killings and destruction.
“New steps are needed to increase pressure on Russia to stop the attacks and to ensure real security guarantees. We are working with our partners to exert such pressure. I thank everyone who is helping,” Zelenskyy added.
Attacks in Ukraine on August 27
Earlier tonight, Russians carried out massive strikes on the Poltava region. Energy sector facilities were damaged, and blackouts were reported.
The night attack also affected Sumy, causing partial power outages, suspending municipal electric transport, and disrupting water supply to residents.
Furthermore, enemy forces struck the Novhorod-Siversky district in the Chernihiv region with a drone, leaving 51 settlements without electricity.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Russian strike drones targeted energy facilities in six regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force repelled the mass drone attack this night. Russian forces launched 95 Russian drones and decoy UAVs, of which air defense forces destroyed 79.
