On January 2, Russia lost 1,080 soldiers on the frontline in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has lost more than 793,000 troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to January 3, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 793,250 (+1,080) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 9,677 (+1);
  • armored personnel vehicle - 20,070 (+14);
  • artillery systems - 21,555 (+3);
  • MLRS - 1,257 (+1);
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,032;
  • airplanes - 369;
  • helicopters - 330;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 21,249 (+49);
  • cruise missiles - 3,003;
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 32,770 (+41);
  • special equipment - 3,675.

Situation at frontline

As of the evening of January 2, 118 combat engagements took place along the entire front line. Moreover, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the situation in the eastern part of the front line is currently one of the most difficult. However, everything will be done to stabilize it in January.

Before the New Year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled one of the most brutal Russian assaults, and in November and December, Russian losses at the front became record-breaking.
