Russia's losses in Ukraine as of August 23: 480 troops and over 20 artillery systems destroyed
Russia's losses in the war in Ukraine as of Wednesday morning, August 23, amounted to 480 occupiers, with the total number of casualties in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion standing at 258,820 military personnel. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed 23 artillery systems, 11 tanks, and 12 enemy armored vehicles, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The overall Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to August 23, 2023, are estimated as follows:
- Personnel: approximately 258,820 (+480);
- Tanks: 4,373 (+11);
- Armored fighting vehicles: 8,488 (+12);
- Artillery systems: 5,318 (+23);
- Multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS): 722 (+1);
- Anti-aircraft missile systems: 491;
- Aircraft: 315;
- Helicopters: 316;
- Tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs): 4,324 (+12);
- Cruise missiles: 1,406;
- Ships/boats: 18;
- Vehicles and tankers: 7,745 (+23);
- Specialized equipment: 800 (+3).
Frontline situation
According to the General Staff, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, solidify their positions at the achieved frontlines, and carry out counter-battery measures. In total, over the past day, more than 30 combat clashes have occurred.
As reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russians claim to have deployed approximately 45,000 soldiers to the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced on at least three fronts.
