According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff's Facebook page, as of the morning of Thursday, August 17, Russian losses in the war in Ukraine amounted to 480 soldiers, bringing the total number of casualties in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion to 256,050 military personnel. Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have successfully neutralized 17 artillery systems and 18 enemy armored vehicles.

The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02.22 to 17.08.23 were approximately:

  • personnel ‒ about 256050 (+480) persons were liquidated,
  • tanks ‒ 4329 (+5),
  • APV ‒ 8398 (+18),
  • artillery systems – 5169 (+17),
  • MLRS – 714 (+0),
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems ‒ 486 (+1),
  • aircraft – 315 (+0) од,
  • helicopters – 314 (+0),
  • UAV operational-tactical level – 4272 (+24),
  • cruise missiles ‒ 1406 (+2),
  • warships / boats ‒ 18 (+0),
  • vehicles and fuel tanks – 7641 (+27),
  • special equipment ‒ 773 (+0).

Frontline situation

According to the General Staff's data, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operations along the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, consolidating their achieved positions and carrying out counter-battery measures.

As reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces made progress in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Russian forces remained stationed in Urozhaine.
