As a result of a Russian airstrike on a civilian bus near Bilopillia in the Sumy region, eight people have died. There are also injuries, and rescue operations are ongoing, states the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.

"Unfortunately, as a result of the cynical Russian strike on a bus carrying civilians, there are casualties. According to preliminary information, 8 people have died. My condolences to the families of the deceased," the official said.

Additionally, the head of the Regional Military Administration reported that 5 people were injured in the attack.

"They are being immediately hospitalized. A rescue operation is ongoing at the site," said Hryhorov in the statement.

Updated: the number of victims has risen to 9

The National Police reported that in Bilopillia, due to a strike by Russia on a bus, preliminary data indicate that nine people were killed and four more were injured.

The National Police emphasized that the Russian army deliberately targeted a passenger bus carrying civilians.

"This is not just another shelling — this is a cynical war crime. The Russian army has once again struck a civilian object, disregarding all norms of international law and humanity," the police stated.

Law enforcement also added that investigative and operational police teams are working at the scene of the tragedy.

"The police are documenting the consequences of the attack, collecting evidence, and recording every criminal trace. All this is to ensure that everyone responsible is found and held accountable," the National Police concluded.

Russian forces shelled a bus near Bilopillia

Earlier today, it became known that Russian terrorists struck a passenger bus in the Sumy region near the city of Bilopillia.

At that time, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that there were casualties as a result of the attack, but the exact number was not yet known. It was also noted that medics and rescue services urgently rushed to the scene.

It should be noted that evacuation of residents is ongoing in Bilopillia, which is located near the border with Russia, due to intensified enemy shelling. In addition to this city, the settlement of Vorozhba is also involved in the evacuation.

Earlier, the Sumy district administration urged residents of these towns to urgently evacuate to a safe place. The administration also informed that evacuation buses run every morning.

It was also reported that on May 5, Russian forces carried out massive shelling of the Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities in the Sumy region, resulting in deaths and injuries.

On May 8, the Russian army launched airstrikes on the Bilopillia community in the Sumy region, injuring a woman who was later rescued from under the rubble by emergency workers.
