Russia hits passenger bus in Sumy region, casualties reported

Russian forces struck a passenger bus in the Sumy region near the city of Bilopillia. As a result of the attack, there are reported casualties, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
"The enemy struck civilian transport. Passengers were injured," the Regional Military Administration stated in a Telegram post on the morning of May 17.
The administration reported that the injured are already receiving medical assistance.
The Regional Military Administration also noted that medical teams and emergency services were dispatched to the scene urgently.
"Updated information will follow," the administration added.
Evacuation of Bilopillia residents due to shelling
In the Sumy region, evacuation continues for residents of two settlements near the Russian border due to ongoing enemy shelling. These are the towns of Bilopillia and Vorozhba.
On May 5, the Sumy District Administration urged residents of these towns to urgently evacuate to a safe place. The administration also reported that evacuation buses run every morning.
Additionally, on May 8, Ukrzaliznytsia announced changes to the routes of some trains in the Sumy region due to security threats around Bilopillia and Vorozhba. This concerns suburban trains.
Recall that on May 5, Russian forces launched massive shelling on the Bilopillia and Vorozhba communities in the Sumy region. The attack killed three people and injured seven, including a 16-year-old teenager. The death toll later rose during the day.
It was also reported that on May 8, the Russian army carried out airstrikes on the Bilopillia community, injuring a woman who was rescued from the rubble by emergency responders.
