The situation in the Pokrovsk and Ocheretyne directions remains difficult. The enemy is concentrating its main efforts there, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reports.
About 400 combat engagements in one week
According to him, about 400 combat engagements took place in these sections of the front over the past week alone. The enemy continues to attempt to break through, increases pressure, and pulls in reserves.
Task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — destruction of enemy reserves
Syrskyi emphasized that the key task of Ukrainian forces remains inflicting maximum losses on the enemy, destroying its reserves, and gradually reducing its offensive potential.
While working directly in the combat zone, the Commander-in-Chief, together with unit commanders, closely analyzes the course of the fighting and adjusts further actions.
Small infantry group tactics
According to Syrskyi, Russian forces continue to use tactics of advancing in small infantry groups. Their timely detection, containment, and destruction require constant monitoring of the battlefield, clear coordination between units, and flexible tactical decisions.
Focus on drones and robotic logistics
The Commander-in-Chief paid special attention to strengthening unmanned systems units. This primarily involves more active use of strike drones to target Russians, as well as the development of logistics using robotic systems.
"The war is changing — and we are changing our approaches to conducting it. Scaling up modern technologies directly affects the effectiveness of combat operations and makes it possible to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers," Syrskyi stressed.
Situation on the front
Earlier, Viktor Trehubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces grouping, reported that the Ukrainian side is aware of the plans of Russian forces for January. According to him, Russian forces are trying to bypass Vovchansk and advance toward Lyman.
He also noted that the enemy is increasing pressure in the Kupiansk area, but all attempts to break through directly to the city are failing. The Defense Forces fully control the situation and disrupt enemy infiltration actions.
According to Trehubov, the main enemy units are concentrated in one of the city's multi-story residential blocks, where clearing operations are ongoing. Ukrainian troops are seeking to complete the operation with minimal losses.
At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine retain control over the northern part of Pokrovsk and are holding back Russian advances on the approaches to Myrnohrad. In addition, the Defense Forces refuted claims about the alleged capture of the village of Minkivka in the Donetsk region, emphasizing that the settlement remains under Ukrainian control.
