According to him, Washington has not passed on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposals for ending the war in Ukraine to Moscow.
Ryabkov also said that Moscow was ready to promptly arrange a visit by US President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Russia as soon as it became clearer what their actual plans were.
What preceded this
On August 11, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has presented the United States with proposals for further steps aimed at increasing pressure on Russia and helping bring the war closer to an end.
The president noted that the United States could help Ukraine strengthen its defenses, particularly air defense.
At the same time, Kyiv expects Washington to use its influence to press Russia into changing its approach and avoid dragging out the war.
It is worth noting that the US Senate approved a bill imposing sanctions on Russia, authored by the late US Senator Lindsey Graham. The decision paves the way for the legislation to be considered by the House of Representatives as early as next month.
Meanwhile, following an escalation in Russian attacks on Ukraine, the EU expanded its sanctions list by adding five more individuals. They were subjected to restrictions over their involvement in Russia’s actions targeting the Ukrainian population and critical infrastructure.
