Russia reports explosions in Bryansk due to drone attacks and air defense
In the early hours of August 21, air defense forces and assets were activated in Russia's Bryansk region in response to what appears to have been a drone attack. Explosions were reported in the area, according to the governor of Russia's Bryansk region Alexander Bogomaz, and local social media sources.
Russian officials claim that the drone attack on the region began late Tuesday evening. By Wednesday morning, explosions were heard in various districts of the region, including Bryansk itself.
Local Telegram channels reported loud noises in the Bryansk, Navlinsky, and Pogarsky districts.
The governor of Russia's Bryansk region Bogomaz stated that air defense forces initially shot down one aircraft-type drone late in the evening. By around 1:30 a.m. (according to the Moscow time zone), he added that seven drones had reportedly been destroyed in the region within an hour.
The Russian official also stated that there were no reported injuries or damage.
"Emergency and operational services are on the scene," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Additionally, footage has surfaced online showing an explosion purportedly occurring in Bryansk during the repulsion of the drone attack.
Drone attacks in the Bryansk region
As with other regions of the aggressor country, Russia, located near the Ukrainian border, Bryansk regularly reports air attacks and air defense operations. These incidents often result in explosions and fires at various sites.
It was also reported that in late July, Russia complained about drone attacks in both the Bryansk and Kursk regions, where explosions occurred and air defense systems were reportedly active.
On April 20, a fire was reported at an electrical substation in the Vygonichsky district of Bryansk due to a drone strike.
Earlier, on April 8, drones attacked a chemical plant in Bryansk that manufactures explosives.
In November of the previous year, Russian state media reported that a UAV of an aircraft type loaded with explosives was found in the village of Siltse, on the territory of the Bryansk Chemical Plant.
