Press secretary for Russian leader Dmitry Peskov commented on a Bloomberg publication that discusses cooperation between Russia and the United States, as well as Russia's return to dollar settlements after the end of the war in Ukraine, according to a Russian media report.
A journalist asked the Kremlin spokesperson about the peace plan published by Bloomberg that includes some proposals from Moscow.
In particular, it refers to the alleged creation of joint ventures for oil and LNG production, including in the Arctic, preferential conditions for companies from the United States to return to Russia, as well as return to settlements in dollars.
"These are quite obvious things set out in this Bloomberg information. Obviously, we offer cooperation. Obviously, companies from both countries are potentially interested in this. There you have joint ventures. Obviously, there are American companies that want to return to the Russian market," Peskov said.
Russia's return to the dollar
He stressed that the aggressor country did not abandon the use of dollars, but rather the United States restricted the number of countries' right to use American currency.
"These countries, naturally, use alternative payments. If the United States abandons this practice of restricting the use of the dollar, then the dollar will have to compete with other alternative currencies, with national currencies that are increasingly used in the world," a Kremlin spokesperson said.
Peskov emphasized that the aggressor country will return to using the dollar "if it is attractive."
What preceded
On Thursday, February 12, Bloomberg reported that Russia is preparing a seven-point document which, according to the Kremlin, reflects the economic interests of the aggressor country and the United States and could align after full-scale war in Ukraine ends.
In particular, the document proposes:
- Joint promotion of fossil fuels instead of more environmentally friendly alternatives;
- Joint investments in natural gas, offshore oil production, and critical raw materials, which would benefit American companies;
- Return of Russia to the dollar settlement system.
At the same time, the agency noted that until now search for alternatives to the dollar had been one of Russia's priorities, so Western officials consider its return to settlements in American currency unlikely.
Publication emphasized that if the Kremlin does take such a step, it would mean submission to Washington's financial dominance. Russia would also abandon efforts to reduce the vulnerability of its economy to US pressure.
Recently, US President Donald Trump stated that Russia wants to do business with Americans. He believes such an aspiration of the Russian leader is a key factor that could force the aggressor country to end the war in Ukraine in the near future.
