US President Donald Trump explained how he managed to end eight wars around the world and why that approach does not work with Russia, according to CBS News.

When asked who was more difficult to deal with, Putin or Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump replied that both should be taken very seriously.

"These are people not to be toyed with. These are people you have to take very serious," he said.

Commenting on remarks about a "red carpet" for Putin in Alaska, Trump quipped that he would "roll out the red carpet for everybody."

The US president reiterated that he had "inherited" the war in Ukraine from Joe Biden, emphasizing that during his presidency, he managed to end eight conflicts worldwide.

"You know how I solved 'em? I said, in many cases, in 60% I said, 'If you don't stop fighting, I'm putting tariffs on both of your countries and you're not going to be able to do business with the United States'," Trump explained.

However, he admitted that this approach does not apply to Russia.

"I did different with him because we don't do very much business with Russia, for one thing, you know? He's not, like, somebody that buys a lot from us because of foolishness. And I think he'd like to be. I think he wants to come in and he wants to trade with us, and he wants to make a lotta money for Russia, and I think that's great," Trump said.

Zelenskyy and Trump discuss prospects for ending war in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that every strengthening of Ukraine brings the end of the war closer, stressing that Russia will be pushed toward peace by decisions made by Ukraine’s partners.

Zelenskyy earlier noted that in recent weeks, there have been signs of real progress toward peace. He said that Ukraine was getting closer to a potential end to the war, though he cautioned that this did not mean it would happen immediately. The president added that Donald Trump’s success in resolving conflicts in the Middle East had inspired him to seek an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine "on the same wave."

Following his meeting with Zelenskyy in Washington in October, US President Donald Trump emphasized the need to stop the killing and reach an agreement to end the war.

According to Trump, the conversation with Zelenskyy was "very interesting and warm," and he said that he had conveyed the same firm message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, that "it’s time to stop the killing and make a deal."
