Russia may have used UMPB-5 cruise bombs launched from a Su-34M aircraft for the first time during the strike on Kharkiv, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office says.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, during the Russian attack, one of the missiles hit a civilian enterprise, and the other - near a multi-storey residential building, where parked cars caught fire.

As of now, 33 victims are known, including 2 girls, one is 10 years old, the other is only 28 days old, a pregnant woman, a 17-year-old boy, and girl who received explosive injuries.

UMPB-5

"According to preliminary data, the Russian attack was carried out by two UMPB-5 guided aerial bombs launched from a Su-34 aircraft near the settlement of Stroitel in the Belgorod region of Russia," the Prosecutor General's Office writes.

In a comment to Dumka, the spokesperson for the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Spartak Borysenko, said that the UMPB-5 launches took place from a distance of more than 100 kilometers. He added that this is a new aerial bomb with a modified planning and correction module.

According to Borisenko, previously, terrorists usually used the D-30. The new version:

  • weighs 250 kilograms
  • consists of thicker metal than the D-30
  • has more consequences.
