Russia launches over 100 drones at Ukraine overnight, air defense downs most

On the night of January 2, Russia attacked Ukraine using 116 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the enemy uncrewed aerial vehicles, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
According to the Air Force, from 18:00 on January 1 until the morning of January 2, Russia attacked with 116 attack drones of the Shahed type, Gerbera, and drones of other types from the following directions: Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo, Oryol, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Chauda and Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied Crimea. About 70 of them were Shahed drones.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data as of 08:30, air defense shot down or suppressed 86 enemy Shahed, Gerbera, and other drones in the north, south, and east of the country.
Hits by 27 attack drones were recorded at 23 locations, as well as the fall of downed drones (debris) at two locations.
"The attack is ongoing. Several enemy drones remain in the airspace. Follow safety rules!" the Air Force warned.
Attacks on Ukraine
On the night of January 2, Russian forces carried out a massive drone attack on Zaporizhzhia. Dozens of buildings were damaged, and a shopping center caught fire.
On New Year's night, January 1, Russia attacked Ukraine using 205 attack drones. Air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the enemy drones.
Hits by 24 attack drones were recorded at 15 locations.
In particular, the Russians attacked energy facilities in Volyn, Odesa, and Chernihiv regions. A significant number of consumers were left without electricity.
Russian forces also carried out an attack with three drones on a hospital in Semenivka in the Chernihiv region on the evening of January 1.
Late on Thursday night, Russian forces carried out another attack on Kherson. The enemy dropped explosives on two people; both are in moderate condition.
