Today, on July 8, Russian troops launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using various types of missiles. Russia targeted civilian infrastructure. The first consequences already reported, in particular, fires broke out in Kyiv, and there were victims.

What Russians are attacking with

According to monitoring networks and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians are using a wide range of weapons. It is reported that cruise missiles were launched from Tu-95 bombers, ballistic missiles were used, and Kinzhal and Kalibr missiles were launched. The network also reported the departure of a group of Tu-22M3 aircraft and the threat of Kh-22 missiles.

Explosions

First, the sounds of explosions were reported in Kryvyi Rih. Ukrainian Air Force warned of a ballistic missile threat. Later, explosions were also heard in the Kropyvnytskyi district of the Kirovohrad region.

Later, a series of explosions were heard in Kyiv and Dnipro.

Ukrainian Air Defense's work

The work of the air defense forces is known in Kyiv and the region.

"Residents of Kyiv region! There is a missile attack! Air defense forces are operating in the region. Please observe information silence. We urge you not to film or post the work of our defenders online! Stay in the shelters until the air raid alarm goes off," the Kyiv Regional Military Administration said in a statement.

Later, the explosions were reported in Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that Ukrainian air defense forces were working in the suburbs.

Consequences so far

Kyiv

During the Russian strikes on Kyiv, people hide in the subway and crosswalks.

Klitschko says that medics were called to the Solomianskyi district. The team is currently on its way.

Later, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as a result of a missile strike on Kyiv, Russian rocked debris fell in Solomianskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. Preliminary, there is a fire. Information on the damage and casualties is being updated.

District:

  • in the Solomianskyi district, there is damage to an office building
  • in Holosiivskyi district, debris fell near a residential building
  • in Dniprovskyi district, debris is burning in a residential building
  • a private house was damaged in the Darnytskyi district
  • a house is on fire in the Desnianskyi district.

At the moment, three people are known to have been injured. One of them was hospitalized. Two were treated on the spot. Authorities are checking the information about one person who was killed.

Klitschko also writes about a hit to one of the premises of a children's medical center. Suspilne news agency reports that it was the Okhmatdyt children's hospital. This was later confirmed by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

So far, 11 people have been injured and 7 killed in Kyiv.

Kryvyi Rih

The head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, Oleksandr Vilkul, wrote on social media that information about the consequences will be available after the air raid is over.

"We are not posting anything on the Internet, there is no need to correct the enemy. There are still missile launches in our direction, we are in shelters," Vilkul adds.

Later, he said that there were 10 killed and 31 wounded in Kryvyi Rih. All the victims are in hospital, 10 of them are seriously injured.

Dnipro

In Dnipro, Russians hit a residential building and a service station. This was reported by Mayor Borys Filatov. He asked to wait for details on the consequences of the attack from the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration.

Ukrainian President and Ombudsman's reaction

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already responded to the attack. According to him, Russian terrorists have again massively attacked Ukraine with missiles, namely, Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk.

"More than 40 missiles of various types. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and a children's hospital were damaged. All services are involved to save as many people as possible. And the whole world must use all its determination to finally put an end to Russian strikes. Killing is what Putin is all about. Only together can we bring real peace and security," Zelenskyy writes.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, in turn, also said that many civilian objects were damaged, including the children's hospital.

"This is another act of terrorism! I have officially appealed to international partners about this. They must understand the cunning and cruelty of the Russian Federation!!!" Lubinets says.

The head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak wrote on his Telegram channel that the Russians fired on Ukraine at a time when there were the most people on the streets.

"Crazy Russian terrorists... This shelling was aimed at civilians and infrastructure, the whole world should see today the consequences of terror, the answer to which can only be force... They purposefully hit children today... Children's hospital, a targeted strike by Russians," Yermak says.

Russia had already attacked Ukraine the night before. Then the Russian occupiers used 4 Kh-101 missiles from Tu-95MS strategic aviation aircraft (launched from the airspace of the Saratov region of the Russian Federation) and 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (launch areas - Kursk region - Crimea).

As a result of combat operations, Ukrainian air defense destroyed 3 Kh-101 cruise missiles in Zhytomyr and Cherkasy regions.
