On August 18, Russian attacks forced one of DTEK's thermal power plants to halt operations. The power plant came under a massive attack, according to a statement by DTEK (the largest private investor and power company in Ukraine's energy sector) on Telegram.

As a result of the attack, the power plant stopped generating electricity. Its equipment was critically damaged.

DTEK noted that since 2022, its thermal power plants have been attacked by Russian forces more than 230 times.

An employee of the company, Oleksandr Kosolapov, was killed in an attack on June 12.

DTEK owns a total of 8 thermal power plants:

  • Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region),
  • Prydniprovska (Dnipro),
  • Ladyzhyn (Vinnytsia region),
  • Dobrotvir (Lviv region),
  • Burshtyn (Ivano-Frankivsk region),
  • Kurakhove,
  • Luhansk,
  • Zaporizhzhia.

The Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia thermal power plants have been under Russian occupation since 2022.

Russian forces destroyed the Kurakhove thermal power plant in 2024.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russian forces again attacked DTEK's energy infrastructure in the Poltava region. The strike forced a gas production facility to halt operations.

It was also reported that overnight on August 17, Russian drones launched a massive attack on one of DTEK's mines in the Dnipropetrovsk region. One person was killed, and another was injured in the attack.

In addition, DTEK's restoration efforts following Russian attacks allowed electricity to be restored to the homes of nearly 440,000 Ukrainian families in late July.
