Russia launches Iskander missile and drone attack on Ukraine overnight: How air defenses responded

On the night of January 7, Russia attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 95 strike drones from various directions. Air defense forces managed to shoot down most of the enemy targets, the Ukrainian Air Force reports.
According to the military, from 6:00 p.m. on January 6 until the morning of January 7, the enemy launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile from Taganrog, Russia, and 95 strike drones of the Shahed and Gerbera types, as well as other UAVs, from the directions of Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Oryol in Russia, Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied Crimea, and Donetsk in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. About 60 of them were Shahed drones.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 7:30 a.m., air defense forces shot down or suppressed one ballistic missile and 81 enemy UAVs of the Shahed and Gerbera types and other drones in the north, center, and east of the country.
Impacts by 14 strike drones were recorded at eight locations, while debris from downed drones fell at five locations.
"The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace. Follow safety rules," the Air Force warned.
Attacks on Ukraine
On the night of January 7, Russian forces carried out a drone attack on the city of Dnipro. Seven people were injured, including two children.
Mayor Borys Filatov reported that residential buildings and educational institutions in Dnipro were hit.
More than ten apartment buildings had several hundred windows shattered. Damage to heating networks near one of the buildings was also reported.
On Tuesday, January 6, Russian forces carried out a ballistic missile attack on Kryvyi Rih, hitting an infrastructure facility.
Additionally, drone and artillery attacks targeted energy facilities in several regions, resulting in power outages.
Overall, on the night of January 6, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using 61 Shahed and Gerbera strike drones and other UAVs. Air defense forces shot down 53 enemy drones.
