On the night of January 5, Russian forces carried out a massive attack on Ukraine, using ballistic missiles and a large number of strike drones, the Air Force reported.

From 6:00 p.m. on January 4, Russia attacked Ukrainian territory with nine Iskander-M ballistic missiles and S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles launched from Russia's Bryansk and Voronezh regions.

In addition, the enemy launched 165 strike UAVs, including Shahed and Gerbera drones, as well as drones of other types, from the directions of Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo, and Oryol. About one hundred of the drones were Shaheds.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 8:00 a.m., air defense forces shot down or suppressed 137 enemy drones in the north, center, and east of the country.

At the same time, impacts from ballistic missiles, surface-to-air guided missiles, and 26 strike UAVs were recorded at 10 locations. Debris from downed drones was recorded at nine additional locations.

Enemy drones remain in Ukrainian airspace. Citizens are urged to follow safety rules and respond to air raid alerts.

Attack on Kyiv and the region on January 5

On the night of January 5, Russian forces attacked the city of Kyiv. In the Obolonskyi district, a drone hit a private clinic: three people were injured, and another man died from his injuries.

There were also losses in the Kyiv region. In the Fastiv district, up to 10 residential buildings were damaged in the attack, along with cars, garages, and warehouse facilities. One man was killed; his body was found by rescuers while extinguishing a fire in his own house.

Overall, on Monday night, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with both drones and missiles. Strikes and consequences of the attack were recorded in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Slavutych, Poltava, and Kharkiv.
