Russian air defenses are losing their ability to repel drone attacks due to a shortage of missiles, which results from precise Ukrainian strikes, stated Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Meeting outcomes

During a meeting with the Chief of the Defense Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces, General Jennie Carignan, the Commander-in-Chief thanked the Government of Canada for the military assistance it provides, including through the NSATU fund and participation in the Czech Initiative.

Special attention was paid to Canada's role in the fighter jet coalition and in training missions for Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel.

Frontline situation

Oleksandr Syrskyi briefed the Canadian side on the difficult situation along the front line of contact.

According to him, Russian forces have intensified offensives in nearly all sectors, but Ukrainian troops are holding the line owing to innovation.

"The Defense Forces of Ukraine rely on careful planning, innovative solutions, and effective use of available strike capabilities. As a result, the adversary is suffering losses that exceed its ability to replenish its units," Syrskyi said.

Russian defense-industrial complex under strike

The top general separately emphasized the highly effective attacks on strategic facilities on Russian territory, which led to the depletion of Russian air defense resources.

"Systematic strikes on Russian production facilities are further reducing air defense capabilities of the adversary, who is already experiencing a shortage of missiles to counter Ukrainian unmanned systems," he stressed.

Syrskyi's decisions and statements made earlier

Recently, the Commander-in-Chief set a strict deadline for checking the supply situation of frontline troops. Unit commanders must oversee logistics and living conditions for soldiers by May 20, following public complaints about inadequate supplies in certain brigades.

He also previously summarized the results of operations for March 2026. According to him, despite continuous Russian assaults, the Defense Forces managed to liberate some territories and improve their tactical positions in several areas of the front.

In addition, Syrskyi stated that Russia is trying, at any cost, to reverse the course of hostilities. In this context, the main priorities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remain the maximum attrition of Russian offensive potential, the preservation of Ukrainian soldiers' lives, and the introduction of innovative strike capabilities.
