Since the onset of the full-scale war initiated by Russia against Ukraine, the United Nations has documented the deaths of more than 12,300 civilians. Additionally, over 27,800 individuals have been injured, states the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu.

"Over 12,340 civilians killed - and more than 27,836 injured - between 24 February 2022 and 30 November 2024," she said during a Security Council meeting.

Nakamitsu also emphasized that around 42% of civilian deaths in Ukraine in November were caused by Russia's use of long-range weapons. This figure is significantly higher than in previous months.

Furthermore, the Deputy Secretary-General cited recent statistics released by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. According to these figures, from January 1 to November 30, airstrikes killed 341 civilians and injured 1,803. These numbers are three and six times higher, respectively than those recorded last year.

On December 17, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on human rights violations in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The document strongly condemns Russia's crimes against Ukraine, including the illegal detention and suffering of Ukrainian civilians, the use of torture, and the discrimination of residents in areas captured by Russian forces.

Additionally, the resolution for the first time states that the aggression of Russian troops constitutes a war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine.
