Ukraine’s border with Russia has effectively become a front line, with active fighting and intense shelling involving aircraft, artillery, and drones, according to the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andrii Demchenko.
“The enemy is trying to use assault groups to attack positions held by our soldiers. Overall, if we talk about the entire border within Sumy region, including areas where State Border Guard Service units are deployed,” Demchenko said.
In particular, over the past day, assault actions were repelled in the Yunakivka community in the direction of the settlement of Varachyne.
“If we speak about this sector in general, the enemy does not stop such actions and carries them out very frequently. Our soldiers repel these attacks, and the enemy suffers heavy losses,” the spokesperson said.
According to him, Russian forces are most actively trying to expand their zone of control in the Krasnopillia and Myropillia communities, as well as in the Shostka district.
At the same time, Russian claims about creating a “buffer zone” do not correspond to reality — Ukrainian defenders are holding back enemy advances.
Demchenko emphasized that the border with Russia has effectively turned into a front line with ongoing combat and intense strikes involving aviation, artillery, and drones.
“The enemy is unable to advance from the border or even within combat zones, particularly in the Yunakivka and Khotin communities, to expand its control or move deeper into Ukrainian territory,” he added.
Threat of an offensive from Belarus
It should be recalled that recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia may again attempt to draw Belarus into direct war against Ukraine.
According to intelligence, infrastructure preparations are underway on Belarusian territory — roads toward the Ukrainian border are being built and artillery positions are being set up, which may indicate preparations for a future escalation.
Commenting on Minsk’s actions, the president also warned the regime of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko against making mistakes.
Experts explained that Zelenskyy hinted at a “Venezuelan scenario” for Lukashenko, implying the inevitability of losing power and facing responsibility if Belarus directly enters the war on Russia’s side.
The situation is also escalating due to internal decisions within Belarus. In particular, Lukashenko signed a decree to call up reserve officers into the armed forces and border services.
This step is officially described as “planned measures,” but it comes amid repeated calls by the Belarusian leader for officials to “mobilize” and prepare for difficult times.
The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that Russia is preparing Belarus for possible escalation, but currently, there is no threat of a renewed invasion from the north. Ukraine’s defense forces fully control the situation along the border.
