Russian forces currently have a threefold advantage in manpower and equipment. In the main directions, they outnumber Ukraine’s troops by four to six times, stated Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

In August, Russia hoped to gain a strategic advantage, achieve a breakthrough, and encircle Ukrainian troops in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration area. Large-scale offensives were also planned on the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions.

However, Ukraine’s defense forces prevented these plans from being realized. Russian troops were forced to delay their offensive in Zaporizhzhia and redeploy marine units to the Donetsk region.

In fact, the month in which Russia exerted maximum effort to break through became the month of its comparatively smallest territorial gains.

The enemy uses "creeping" advances with small infantry groups, attempting to infiltrate populated areas by exploiting gaps between positions and avoiding direct clashes.

Syrskyi also reported that during August, Ukrainian forces regained control over 58 square kilometers of territory and liberated several settlements, continuing to hold back the enemy and prevent its breakthrough.

Additionally, Ukraine’s defense forces liberated the village of Zarichne in the Donetsk region. The settlement is now fully under Ukrainian army control. Ukrainian troops released a video showing the national flag raised over one of the buildings.

On August 24, Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces had carried out successful counterattacks in the Donetsk region and liberated three settlements from Russian occupation.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces also liberated the village of Novoeconomichne near Pokrovsk from Russian troops.
