Russia fired ballistic, Kh-59 missiles and Shaheds at Ukraine overnight: Air defense report
On the night of August 6, 2024, Russian invaders carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine, according to the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.
The enemy used four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Voronezh region, two Kh-59 guided air missiles launched from the airspace over the Sea of Azov, and 16 Shahed-type strike drones that arrived from the directions of Cape Chauda (Crimea) and Kursk (Russia).
Ukraine's defense forces, including mobile fire groups, anti-aircraft missile troops, and electronic warfare units of the Air Force, repelled the massive air attack.
Thanks to the coordinated work of the defenders, two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, two Kh-59 guided air missiles, and 15 strike drones were shot down in the Kyiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
Russian night attack on Ukraine
Late in the evening of August 5, Russian occupiers launched kamikaze drones to strike Ukraine, as well as launched ballistic missile strikes toward the capital. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, with reports of air defense activity in the city and region due to the missile attack. Later, air defense systems were activated in the region due to the attack by Shahed-type drones.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that there were no destructions or casualties in Kyiv due to the enemy missile attack.
Additionally, around 00:50, the invaders shelled the village of Tsyrkuny in the Kharkiv district, and explosions were also heard in Kharkiv due to the enemy attack.
There were also reports of explosions in the Khmelnytskyi region, where enemy strike drones were heading.
