US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Ukraine and Russia will have to make concessions in order to reach a peace agreement. According to his interview with Fox News, neither side will be 100% satisfied.

Rubio stressed that in any negotiations aimed at ending a war or conflict, both parties must not only receive but also give.

"In essence, one side is not going to get 100 percent here. Each side is going to have to make some concessions," he said.

Although it is "not easy" and possibly "not fair," the US Secretary of State added that this is the only way to end the war.

"The only wars that don’t end that way are the ones that have unconditional surrender by one side or the other, and we’re not going to see that in this conflict," Rubio noted.

He also said that after the meetings held in Washington, a summit between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is expected, followed by negotiations involving Donald Trump. It is at this final meeting that an agreement between Kyiv and Moscow to end the war is planned.

As reported, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington on August 18, where he held talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House. European leaders later joined the discussion.

Afterward, Trump said he had spoken by phone with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. He announced that he had begun organizing a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin, after which another meeting would be held in a trilateral format.

Russia, for its part, confirmed its readiness to first hold a bilateral meeting and then take part in negotiations with Donald Trump.
