Russia is taking advantage of the fact that Ukraine cannot hold elections during the war and is dragging out the negotiations, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The ISW believes that Russia is deliberately exploiting the fact that, due to the war, Ukraine is constitutionally unable to hold elections. In this way, the Kremlin is attempting to influence the negotiations and prolong the war.
At the same time, according to analysts, Russia could allow Ukraine to hold elections at any time. All it needs to do is agree to a ceasefire.
The United States and Ukraine have proposed such a ceasefire many times already.
US President Donald Trump called on Ukrainians to elect a new leader to replace Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Trump, it is time for Ukraine to have a new president, and he criticizes Zelenskyy for never striking deals.
American billionaire and owner of social media platform X, Elon Musk, responded to Trump's remarks. Zelenskyy has gone too far, he wrote.
