Russians have effectively destroyed the Kinburn Spit and the unique Askania-Nova nature reserve in the south through their military actions, said Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.

Pletenchuk said, "We are talking about that very nature reserve – Askania-Nova. Environmentalists have already raised the alarm and reached out to me, asking to draw attention to this issue, because unfortunately, it is not being widely discussed in the media."

He also emphasized that the Kinburn Spit has been effectively destroyed. At the same time, it is currently impossible to say whether the reserve (Askania-Nova – ed.) can be restored and when it will be. Likewise, the fighting around Crimea is significantly affecting flora and fauna.

According to various estimates, environmentalists report the deaths of thousands of dolphins, as they are susceptible to explosions.

According to the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, environmentalists from the Odesa region reported the appearance of oil slicks that have already reached the coast near Odesa. However, their scale is much smaller than in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.

According to the Ukrainian Navy, from the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit, Russian forces continue shelling the southern areas of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. In addition, from this location, the enemy can attack vessels that could potentially enter the waters of the Dnipro-Buh estuary.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, many dolphins have died in the bays of Sevastopol – they were being washed ashore on various coasts of occupied Crimea.

Among those found were also concussed animals showing symptoms of sonar damage. Among the dead dolphins, there were many individuals of the white-sided dolphin species.
