Russia deploys air defense systems to Ukrainian front exposing its borders - British intelligence
After reports last week of the loss of several Russian long-range S-400 missile systems, a new analysis indicates that to maintain coverage over Ukraine, Russia will have to redistribute air defense systems that typically protect remote parts of the country, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
As mentioned in the statement, Russia's top long-range air defense systems, such as the S-400, can target objects at distances of up to 400 km.
According to British intelligence, relocating systems in strategically essential locations along Russia's borders will likely weaken Russian air defense on its periphery.
"The reallocation of strategic air defense assets would further demonstrate how the Ukraine conflict continues to overextend Russia's military and strains its ability to retain baseline defenses across its vast area," notes the UK Ministry of Defence.
Air Defense losses
In early November, British intelligence reported that in the last week, due to strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russian forces may have lost at least four launchers of long-range air defense missile systems.
On the night of October 30, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully hit a strategic object of the air defense system in occupied Crimea on the western coast.
Also, on October 25, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a strategic S-400 air defense system near the occupied Luhansk.
