Russia copies Ukrainian robotic turret Shablya and names it Chapay
Russians have introduced a remotely controlled machine gun turret called Chapay. It resembles the Ukrainian-made Shablya turret, Defence Express reports.
Russians first presented their development at their own defense forum Army-2024 in Moscow. The development was showcased by the investment fund Era, which finances Russian weapons developers.
According to photos from the exhibition, the Russians have completely replicated both the concept and implementation of the Ukrainian-made Shablya weapon. Since September of last year, it has been authorized for use on the front lines by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What is known about the Russian analog
The Russian version of the turret features a wired remote control and uses an optical aiming module. The weapon is adapted for various machine guns, including the 7.62 PKM or the 12.7-mm NSV Utyos and Kord.
It is worth noting that the Chapay currently being discussed is only an exhibition prototype. It is not known whether Russia has managed to establish serial production.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that at the Army-2024 forum in Russia, the S-500 Prometey anti-aircraft missile system was publicly showcased. It is claimed to be capable of intercepting hypersonic targets.
