Russian forces bombed Sumy on the evening of September 18. Residential buildings were hit, and there were injuries and deaths, according to statements from Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov and Sumy City Military Administration head Serhii Kryvosheienko.

Russia targeted a residential building in Sumy

As Hryhorov said, Russian forces struck Sumy and the outskirts of the city with guided aerial bombs.

"Unfortunately, a residential high-rise building was hit," the official said.

He noted that people may be trapped under the rubble.

"Relevant services are working at the scene. Information about the consequences of the attack is still being clarified," the head's statement said.

Kryvosheienko later clarified that six to seven guided aerial bombs hit the city, and there are people injured.

"One of the strikes hit a residential area in the Kovpakivskyi district. At least four high-rise buildings were damaged. The number of casualties and the consequences of the attack are being established," he said.

Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar added that the city was attacked after 9 p.m.

"As of now, five people are known to have been injured, including one child. Medics are providing all necessary assistance. All relevant services are working at the scene," he said.

Later, Oleh Hryhorov clarified that two people were killed in the airstrike on Sumy.

"Seven people are now known to have been injured. Among them is a 13-year-old girl. Three people are critical. Medics are providing all necessary assistance."

As previously reported, on September 10, Russian forces struck a shopping mall in central Sumy for a second time, after it had just been closed for repairs following the previous day's attack.

Notably, on the evening of September 9, Russia attacked the shopping mall with a drone for the first time.

In this strike, three people were killed, while 14 others were injured, including three children, among them a 16-year-old teenager.
